In the Libraries: April at George Bruce

The New York Public Library (NYPL) is a great resource for New Yorkers, offering virtual events, free online services, and a wide variety of support, even during the COVID-19 pandemic. Columbia Neighbors has partnered with the George Bruce Library on 125th Street to provide regular updates from library staff and highlight its fantastic offerings.

Upcoming Events
  • Obscure and Odd Super-Villains: On April 7 at 2:00 PM, join George Bruce and Washington Heights library staff as they take a look at odd and obscure characters from Marvel and DC comics, some of whom have made appearances in the new Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
  • Virtual Open Book Hour: At this discussion for adults on April 14 at 12:30 PM, join staff from George Bruce to discuss your current reading. All genres and formats welcome, including e-books and audiobooks.
  • On Wednesday, April 21 at 4:00 PM, Yolanda Borrás will lead engaging Spanish-language activities during Little Learners Live: I'm Bilingual! for children up to 5-years-old and their families.
  • Apply by April 23 for New York City's Summer Youth Employment Program for young people ages 14-21 living in one of the five boroughs.

  • National Poetry Month at the NYPL: Discover free online events, poetry recommendations, and fun ways to get involved on social media.
  • History Now: The Pandemic Diaries Project: Preserve your experience of this pivotal historical moment by sharing an audio recording of yourself or your loved ones telling personal stories about life during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Story Line: Call 917-ASK-NYPL (917-275-6975) to hear a children’s book performed by one of our talented librarians. A new story will be made available every week in English, Spanish, and Mandarin.

  • Overdue fees are suspended until June 30, 2021.
