9 Photos From a Celebration of the 10th Cohort of the A'Lelia Bundles Community Scholars at Columbia
On Oct. 18, 2022, Bundles Scholars old and new joined together in Low Library to celebrate the 10th cohort.
On Oct. 18, A'Lelia Bundles Community Scholars old and new joined together in the Burden Room at Low Library on Columbia's campus to celebrate the tenth cohort of scholars joining the program.
Bundles Scholars are members of the Upper Manhattan community who receive a three-year affiliation with Columbia and access to campus resources while they work on a project or skill that relates to or benefits their community. Bundles Scholars join an intellectual community with the other participants in the program and can connect with the university's intellectual life.
After remarks from Executive Vice President for Public Affairs Shailagh Murray, four of five of this year's scholars introduced their research interests and projects:
- Patricia Marte, also known as Patty Dukes, a storyteller who focuses on preserving and promoting Uptown culture
- Glenna Meeks, a memoirist who writes poetry and makes films
- Abby Oulton, an educator working on a print and digital series of guides to make common technologies more accessible to young people
- Tiffany Parkes, a multidisciplinary artist who is curating installations of multi-sensory experiences centered around food, film, mixed media art, and educational conversation
Jillian Louallen, who was not able to attend, is working on an organization that exists to improve the quality of life of individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
Following remarks from scholars, George Calderaro, director of community relations at the School of Professional Studies, introduced the Community Scholars Lecture Series, which will return in early December with a lecture on caregiving.
Scholars from former cohorts as well as staffers then had the chance to mingle, share ideas, and connect with one another.
Here are a few photos from the evening that showcase the joy of meeting in person for the first time since 2019.
