From glowing community celebrations to joyous caroling concerts, Uptown is abuzz this holiday season with festive events rooted in culture and connection. This month, the Lee C. Bollinger Forum and Columbia University Event Management are illuminating the innovation of local artisans and makers at their inaugural Holiday Market.
Throughout December, neighbors, students, faculty, and staff are invited to stop by the Uptown community space’s airy atrium as it transforms into a vibrant marketplace featuring an array of locally made, sustainably crafted artisanal goods. From statement jewelry pieces to aromatic Harlem-inspired candles, this year’s lineup of local vendors includes Couleurs NY, Reprise Activewear, Framiati, Rouge Hoops, Jillian Trumpet Creative, Bambrey Street Creations, The 125 Collection, and other brands.
Sitting at the intersection of community, commerce, and creativity, the seasonal small business soirée is an extension of The Forum’s ongoing efforts to champion local entrepreneurs. Since April, vendors participating in Columbia’s Small Business Pop-Up Market series have collectively earned nearly $5,000 from their solo pop-up events, a promising indicator of the program’s early impact and growing momentum.
“It’s been fun to meet all of the entrepreneurs and see the market come to life,” said Emily Ailts, Assistant General Manager, Columbia Event Management. “Each participant has so much passion and creativity for what they do, so it’s especially important to me at the holidays that we’re helping to invest in their businesses and our community.”
Whether you’re in search of the perfect one-of-a-kind gift or want to meet the makers behind emerging local brands, this Uptown bazaar deserves a spot on your seasonal bucket list.
The Forum’s Holiday Market—which runs from Dec. 1-19—is open Monday through Thursday from 12 to 5 pm and Fridays from 4 to 8 pm.
