Tricia Shimamura has joined Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine's leadership team as the community affairs director. During her time at Columbia as director of government relations at the Office of Government and Community Affairs (GCA), Shimamura served as the liaison to the University Trustees Committee on Public Affairs, supported GCA’s engagement efforts with local government and community partners, and worked to increase civic engagement throughout the university and with our neighbors.

Shimamura's efforts to enhance civic engagement on campus, and specifically to increase the voting record of the university student body while also engaging our neighbors were immense and culminated with the creation of Columbia Votes.

"During the her time at the university, Tricia mentored countless students and inspired dozens of staff and faculty to see the potential in, and become more deeply involved with, local government and civic life." said Shailagh Murray, executive vice president of public affairs at Columbia University. "Ever the social worker, Tricia is all about equipping individuals with the tools to make a difference."

Please join us in congratulating Tricia Shimamura on her new role!
