Dear neighbor,

Next month, Columbia University will move forward with the installation of a new Public Safety Guard Booth on the south side of West 120th Street, just east of Broadway.

A Public Safety Guard Booth situated at the curb has been of interest since the completion of the Northwest Science building.  Columbia’s Office of Public Safety began the approval process early on and has obtained support from the 26th Precinct, Community Board 9 and the NYC Dept. of Transportation. The Booth will be a welcome addition to the streetscape and serve as a point of contact for pedestrians and motorist traveling in the area who need assistance.

Construction will begin on June 10th. .   The scope of work will include excavation, electrical service installation and the construction of a concrete foundation for the booth. The bulk of the work will occur in phases during the summer with work hours extending from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday– Friday.  While some noise is anticipated, the work area will be enclosed leaving the sidewalk area that remains available for pedestrian activity along 120th Street. The delivery of the booth and installation are expected in the fall.

An illustrative rendering is attached below.  We will keep you apprised of our activity for the duration of the project.
