Harlem Pride and Uptown Swing This Saturday!

2019 marks the 10th anniversary of Harlem Pride's presence in Upper Manhattan, the 100th anniversary of the Harlem Renaissance and the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. The legacies of these events and groups will be celebrated this Saturday in West Harlem, with the Harlem Pride celebration on 12th Avenue at West 135th Street, and Uptown Swing on the Columbia's Manhattanville campus outside the Lenfest Center for the Arts on 129th street.

The Harlem Pride 10th Anniversary Celebration Day, from 12:00 to 6:00 PM, will be hosted by Dominique Jackson (from the FX show Pose), and will include live entertainment on 2 stages, as well as food and dancing. Admission is free, and everyone is welcome to come enjoy the festivities. For more information, visit the Harlem Pride website.

Uptown Swing

From 1:00 to 6:30 PM on Saturday, Uptown Swing will celebrate the Harlem Renaissance 100 with swing dancing and swing dance lessons. There will also be tabling by Harlem cultural organizations, and performances by Harlem Opera Theater, Dance Theater of Harlem, Jazz Swing Band led by Andre Carvalho of Manhattan School of Music, and the Patience Higgins Jazz and Swing Quintet. Sugar Hill Creamery and Dear Mama Coffee will provide refreshments.
