Columbia Hosts NYC Economic Development Day for Harlem Week

Columbia University will host and sponsor The Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce's NYC Economic Development Day (EDD) Conference on August 8th, held in partnership with The City of New York, New York State, and Federal agencies. EDD is a part of Harlem Week which celebrates the neighborhood’s assets and unique flavor, promoting Harlem’s rich African, African-American, Caribbean, Hispanic and European history, cultures, arts, entertainments, and sports.

EDD consists of a series of events that feature topical subjects of interest that include presentations by public and or private developers of new projects in the tristate region, opportunities to learn how to secure contracts, network with professionals in a wide variety of fields, & technology initiatives that will help to grow your business and more.  

This year, Harlem Week celebrates its 45th Anniversary with the theme "Our Local History Creates a Global Impact."  Professor Farah Jasmine Griffith, head of the newly formed Columbia University Department of African American and African Diaspora Studies will provide opening remarks at the Basil A. Paterson Business Award Luncheon

International Business & Health Conferences 9:30AM – 11:30AM

Conference sessions on health and business are held simultaneously during the day. The business conference focuses on topics including Minority/Women Business opportunities, securing grants & contracts, International Business Opportunities and more. The health conference focuses on the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle in order to contribute to a healthy business environment. Topics range from insurance issues to nutrition to exercise and more. Registration Required.


Indoor Business & Professional Services Expo 10:00AM – 3:00PM

Free, and open to the public the Expo is a unique opportunity to mix, mingle, share information and network with professionals in a wide variety of fields including finance, retail, professional services, technology, city and state agencies and much more.


Outdoor Farmer’s Market 10:00AM – 5:00PM
Location: Columbia University, Alfred Lerner Hall, 2920 Broadway, New York, NY 10027 

Fresh Fruits and Vegetables and healthy foods are available all day at this special outdoor market that is free and open to the public.


Basil A. Paterson Business Award Luncheon 12:00PM – 2:00PM
Location: Columbia University, Alfred Lerner Hall, 2920 Broadway, New York, NY 10027 

Professor Farah Jasmine Griffith, head of the newly formed Columbia University Department of African American and African Diaspora Studies provides opening remarks at this Invite Only event as it celebrates some of New York City’s most effective and impactful businesspersons. Attended by a “who’s who” of NYC’s business elite this luncheon is a highlight of the day, held outside.


Tech “MeetUp”/ Business Conference presented by Silicon Harlem 3:00PM – 5:00PM
