Teens throughout New York City, along with more than 50 nonprofits and community organizations serving them, have collaborated on a plan to offer a broad array of well-designed educational and 21st century skill-building activities online. These will include training in leading community-building initiatives, learning and practicing sector-specific competencies, and creating or curating digital content. Through a Request for Proposals (RFP), ExpandED Schools, along with its partners, invites applicants to apply to share and deliver quality work-based learning activities as a complement to a publicly funded citywide program for teens this summer.
Through this RFP, private funds will be distributed to NYC youth-serving organizations. These include DYCD-contracted SYEP Providers and organizations that serve as technical assistance partners to SYEP (Summer Youth Employment Program) Providers. This RFP is to solicit proposals for curriculum development, training and technical assistance and virtual and project-based experiences. Funds for evaluation, emergency technology and stipends for youth without social security numbers will be distributed through a separate process.
ExpandED Schools and partners are also soliciting free materials and services that may already be created for review and inclusion in opportunities made available to teens, whether or not they are participating in SYEP this summer. Responses are welcomed from organizations that do not need funds in order to a comprehensive collection of robust offerings that meet the program guidelines.
Multiple rounds of funding are anticipated. Initially, $500,000 has been secured to begin to develop partnerships in support of NYC Youth. Proposals are due May 29th, June 5th and June 12th.
