Uptown Artisanal is a collective of small businesses and artisans from Upper Manhattan who banded together in 2019 to hold monthly pop-up markets in the retail space at 2878 Broadway. The original participants were all graduates of the Harlem Local Vendor Program at the Columbia-Harlem Small Business Development Center, and though the group has expanded, the HLVP especially, and the SBDC generally, remain well represented among participants.

On Wednesday, November 13, Columbia University and the Office of Government and Community Affairs partnered with the Office of Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, Manhattan Community Board 9, the Boys & Girls Club of Harlem, The City College of New York, and the New York Public Library for a successful Harlem Census Recruitment Day. Recruitment officers from the U.S. Census Bureau were present at 7 Upper Manhattan locations to answer questions and assist with applications for 2020 census taker positions.

Through the initiative of Roberto Herrera, local children have the opportunity to access indoor rock climbing through an innovative youth mentorship program. The Harlem Rock Club includes climbing instruction guided by an evidence-based youth development curriculum to positively impact participants’ academic and social-emotional learning. The program combines fun, experiential learning and healthy physical activity with team and social skill-building opportunities. Groups of children from FamilyWorks Harlem, Brotherhood Sister-Sol, and St.Mary’s Episcopal Church have already taken part in the program. The program takes place at Steep Rock Bouldering, one of the retail tenants at the Jerome L. Greene Science Center at Columbia's Manhattanville campus.

Throughout November and December, Bloomingdale School of the Arts faculty members will present free concerts across a variety of genres and eras of music. With performances from special guests in addition to the faculty performers, the concerts provide a number of opportunities for engagement with this beautiful art form.
