Celebrate spring and bring the outdoors inside at our concert “Atmospheres | Atmósferas” on Sunday, April 21st at 3pm at the Fort Washington Collegiate Church.

Program:

  • Missy Mazzoli: Violent, Violent Sea

  • Angélica Negrón: Lanzarse

  • Paul Brantley: Linden Terrace with soprano Jennifer Zetlan *world premiere*

  • Aaron Copland: Appalachian Spring

The program begins with Mizzy Mazzoli’s “Violent, Violent Sea,” a work for chamber orchestra that explores the juxtaposition of dark and light that the sea can evoke in our senses. Explore urban ornithology in the city of Old San Juan, Puerto Rico in Angélica Negrón’s “Lanzarse.” Keep things local with Washington Heights composer Paul Brantley’s musical love letter to Fort Tryon Park: “Linden Terrace” with Washington Heights internationally acclaimed soprano Jennifer Zetlan as soloist. Our program concludes with Aaron Copland’s iconic “Appalachian Spring.” Originally a composed for ballet, many themes of this well-known work have come to be synonymous with depicting the sights and sounds of Americana.

Prior to the concert, at 2:30pm bring the whole family to our "Meet the Instruments" petting zoo where even our youngest listeners can get up close and personal with their favorite instruments before seeing them come alive onstage. This event will take place (weather permitting) in the beautiful setting of the Fort Washington Green, the community garden space at FWCC.

And finally, join the musicians of WHCO after the concert for a reception!
