Fort Tryon Park, Billings Lawn: 193rd St. & Fort Washington Ave.

The Scandinavian Music Festival in Fort Tryon Park, now in its 20th season, is a unique series of three outdoor summer concerts performed by musicians of the Scandia Symphony and guest artists. The performances are all free of charge and will take place on Cloisters Lawn in Fort Tryon Park.

This natural and scenic performance space is within walking distance of Washington Heights and Inwood and is a beautiful and inspiring setting for listeners and musicians alike.

Events are planned for three dates in June 2025:

June 6 at 5:00 PM: The Scandia Brass Quintet will perform their popular repertoire of contemporary and traditional compositions, folk tunes and arrangements, representing music from each of the five Scandinavian countries, including five national anthems.

June 15 at 2:00 PM: The Scandia String Orchestra will perform works by Danish composer Carl Nielsen and Swedish Baroque composer Johan Helmich Roman, as well as commissioned works by Danish composers Nikolaj Hess and Josefine Opsahl, and our own Resident Composer Frank Foerster.

June 20 at 6:00 PM: The Scandia String Quartet will perform a selection of grand and virtuosic string quartets by major composers, representing each of the Scandinavian countries, including compositions by Rued Langgaard, Jean Sibelius, Lars-Erik Larsson Christian Sinding and Edward Grieg. This program will also be performed at Riverstone Senior Center at 99 Fort Washington Avenue on June 17th and at the YM & YMHA on 54 Nagle Avenue on June 18th.
