Honoring Legacy, Lifting Community
On May 27, Harlem Community School District 5 will host Harlem Family Night at the Guggenheim, a vibrant celebration of student creativity, cultural heritage, and community pride. Families will gather at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum to view student artwork inspired by the legendary Faith Ringgold, a Harlem native, whose iconic story quilt Tar Beach will be on display.
This event holds special meaning for the District 5 community. For years before her passing, Faith Ringgold supported the district’s arts and cultural education initiatives. Her Anyone Can Fly Foundation continues to inspire young artists across the district and is actively used to promote artistic expression and Black cultural identity in classrooms.
The evening will feature performances, guided tours, and a community-centered museum experience, reflecting the district’s ongoing commitment to culturally responsive education and the arts as a cornerstone of student voice and learning.
Please register in advance to attend.
