Established in 1995, the City University of New York and Columbia University established the Health Careers Scholarship designed for northern Manhattan residents pursuing careers in the health/medical sciences. The program’s goals are to increase the number of District 9 & 12 residents entering the health fields, and to provide increased job opportunities at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia University Medical Center, and other health care institutions throughout the city.

Scholarships are awarded to students residing in Districts 9 & 12 to assist them in the completion of their program’s clinical internship requirement and state license exam. Scholarship amounts vary in relation to the amount of clinical hours required by each program. Scholarships are awarded at a rate of $15.00 per completed clinical hour with a maximum scholarship award of $27,000.
