ARISEis back for its fifth year. West Harlem Development Corporation (WHDC) will provide exciting and enriching youth development programming for West Harlem teens this summer.

The Summer 2021 program (July 12 - August 20th) is a hybrid model: virtual classroom experience Monday - Thursday, and outdoor programming Fridays with community partner sites. This year’s program focuses on project-based learning, responding to ideas you want to see addressed here in West Harlem.

In response to the greater need brought about by the pandemic, WHDC will increase our program’s capacity to accept 150 West Harlem teens into the program. Participants will receive a $1250 stipend for successfully meeting program expectations.

  • West Harlem – Manhattan Community District 9 (MCD9*) residency
  • Minimum of 14 years of age (by July 12, 2021)
  • Current student 8th-11th grade
  • A commitment to completing the entire six-week program without interruption

To apply, eligible youth can visit

*MCD9 Boundary – 110th to 155th Streets from the Hudson River to an eastern boundary along Manhattan, Morningside, St. Nicholas, Bradhurst, and Edgecombe Avenues.
