Candidates of color made history in the 2018 election cycle. That’s why my Black History Month celebration this year will be a discussion of that electoral success—and how much work we still have to do. My office is joining with Columbia University’s Institute for Research in African American Studies to host this special event. Our guests include policy strategist Na'ilah Amaru, Kimberly Peeler-Allen, the co-founder of Higher Heights, and political consultant Basil Smikle.
This event is put on by Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer and supported by the Institute for Research in African-American Studies.
