First-graders read Julia Sarcone-Roach's 'Subway Story' to learn about subways and what happens to them when they're no longer useful as transportation. To help them synthesize the concept of sustainability, and appreciate how one thing can be turned into another that's equally useful, students will embark on a writing project to imagine how they might repurpose a subway car.
