Community Law Partnership

Alianza Dominicana, Legal Aid Society, and Columbia University

Legal documents and penIn partnership with Alianza Dominicana and the Legal Aid Society, Columbia University is helping immigrants who are faced with deportation—a major problem for thousands of residents in Upper Manhattan.

Deportation and immigrant rights are complicated legal issues. Immigrants who do not fully comprehend their rights have been standing trial without legal representation. This partnership provides legal aid to immigrants dealing with the complicated system of immigration laws.

Through this partnership, Columbia Law School students provide legal counsel for residents of Upper Manhattan being threatened with deportation. Many of these residents are members of the Dominican community and have lived in New York City for years, some even for decades.

The benefits of this community law partnership reach beyond the walls of the courtroom. Once the burdens of legal challenges are lifted, local residents can focus on making a better life for themselves and their families.

The office is located in Washington Heights at 665 West 182nd Street between Broadway and Wadsworth. Please call 212-781-0355 to schedule an appointment.
