Planning Team

The campus plan study is being conducted by a University-led planning team and two preeminent architectural and planning firms, Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW) and Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM). RPBW has designed a number of venues and buildings around the world, including the reconstruction of the Potsdamer Platz in Berlin and the headquarters for the New York Times and the Morgan Library addition in New York.

Known for its landmark projects in New York, including the new Pennsylvania Station located in the Farley Building, SOM has also been engaged in a number of campus planning studies and projects for institutions such as Harvard, University of Chicago, and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. The team has been evaluating the best use of existing space and how to address the needs for additional academic space.

Many design elements of the University's proposal reflect ongoing conversation with the community and previous studies such as the West Harlem Piers Master Plan (pdf).
