Project Overview

School of Social Work
The Columbia School of Social Work is the oldest and one of the most renowned institutions of its kind in the United States. Its ability to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century was severely hampered by the inadequacies of its former home, McVickar Hall, located on 113th Street between Broadway and Riverside Drive. To overcome these deficiencies, the School of Social Work and the University have constructed a new instructional and office facility at 1255 Amsterdam Avenue between West 121st Street and Morningside Drive. It provides instructional spaces, administrative and faculty research offices as well as a street-level retail space. The building opened in August 2004.
